Search ​

This guide describes the Theme settings > Search menu options.

Visitors can enter search terms into your store's Search textbox, to find occurrences of the terms throughout your store. Use the Search theme settings to specify the parts of your store to include in searches, and how the search results are displayed. Refer to Shopify help: Search behavior.

In the previous image, on the right side, the search term Delson coat is entered into the Search textbox on a store's home page. Using predictive search, as the visitor types, two store products that match the search term are displayed in the Search results area. On the left, in Theme settings > Search, the search results are retrieved by setting the following options:

  • The Enable predictive search checkbox is set to on to provide predictive searching.
  • To include products in the search results, the Search products checkbox is set to on.
  • The Crop predictive search image option sets the cropping ratio/style for the images displayed within the search results to Square.

To set up search:

  1. Go to Theme settings > Search.

  2. Select a setting described in the following table.

Enable predictive searchSelect the Enable predictive search checkbox to turn on/off predictive searching. As a visitor types a search term into the search field, predictive search suggests items in your store that match the search term. Refer to Shopify developer guide: Add predictive search to your theme.
Search productsSelect the Search products checkbox to include/exclude products in the search results.
Search collectionsSelect the Search collections checkbox to include/exclude collections in the search results.
Search articlesSelect the Search articles checkbox to include/exclude articles (blog posts) in the search results.
Search pagesSelect the Search pages checkbox to include/exclude store pages in the search results.
Show search suggestionsSelect the Show search suggestions checkbox to show/hide suggestions in the search field. To display search suggestions, set the Enable predictive search checkbox option to on.
Crop predictive search imagesUse the Crop predictive search image options to set a cropping ratio/style for images displayed within the predictive search results. The options are No crop, Landscape, Square or Portrait. By default, this option is set to Square.
