Featured product ​

This guide describes setting up the Featured product section.

Use the section to promote a specific product by featuring it on a store page.

The previous image shows a Featured product section on a store's homepage. The section contains the default blocks, and the following additional blocks:

  • The Description block displays a text area with additional product information.
  • The Quote block displays a comment from a reviewer about the product.
  • The Location inventory status block displays the quantity of a product that's available in each inventory location.

To set up a featured product section:

  1. Go to Customize theme.

    At the top of the page, use the dropdown to select a page that contains a Featured product section. For example, select the Home page.

    Note

    The section can be added into any page, except Checkout and Giftcard pages. To add the section into the current page, select Add section > Featured product. Refer to Shopify help: Add a section.

  2. From the side menu, select Featured product.

  3. Select a setting described in the following table.

Section setting nameDescription
HeadingIn the Heading box, enter text to display as a title inside the section.
Heading > Connect dynamic sourceTo display title text from a dynamic source, select the Connect dynamic source icon, beside the Heading box, and then choose a metafield to add. Refer to Shopify help: Metafields.
Featured productUse the following Featured product selector options to set up a product to display inside the section.
  • To add a product, choose Select product, enter the name of a product into the Search box or select a product from the list. Then, choose Select.
  • To create a new product, select Create product to open the Create product page in Shopify admin. Refer to Shopify help: Products.
  • To replace a product, choose Change > Change product. Enter the name of a product into the Search box or select a product from the list. Then, choose Select.
  • To remove a product, select Change > Remove product.
Featured product > Connect dynamic sourceTo display a product from a dynamic source, select the Connect dynamic source icon beside the Featured product box, and then choose a metafield to add. Refer to Shopify help: Metafields.
LayoutUse the Layout options to set the section to use the Full width of the section's area, or a Narrow part of the section's area.
Media > Learn more about media types (link)Follow the link Learn more about media types to open the webpage Shopify help: Product media.
Media > Enable video loopingSelect the checkbox Enable video looping to turn on/off continuous replay for videos inside the section. With this setting is set to off, the video plays once. To use this setting, upload video media to the Products area of your Shopify admin. Refer to Shopify help: Product media.
Color > Color schemeUse the Color scheme options to select a color scheme for the section. Refer to Colors.
Theme settingsIf available, select Theme settings to access additional settings for the section. Refer to Section theme settings menu.
Custom CSSSelect Custom CSS. In the box, enter custom CSS styles to apply only to the current section. Refer to Shopify help: Add custom CSS. To apply custom styles to your entire online store, refer to Theme settings > Custom CSS.
Remove sectionSelect Remove section to delete the section from the current page.

A default Featured product section contains four product blocks. To configure a block inside the section:

  1. Go to Customize theme.

    At the top of the page, use the dropdown to select a page that contains a Featured product section. For example, select the Home page.

  2. From the side menu, expand the Featured product section menu.

  3. To configure an existing block, select the block from the side menu.

    To add a new block, select Add block, choose a block to add, and then select the block you added.

    Note

    Inside a featured product section, you can add, remove, show/hide, or move blocks. Refer to Configure blocks inside a section, and Shopify help: Sections and blocks.

  4. Apply the corresponding block settings described in the Table: Featured product blocks.

The following table describes the blocks inside the Featured product section, and their corresponding settings.

Some blocks have No customizable settings available. The blocks indicated with an asterisk * are contained in a default featured product section. To configure a block, refer to Configure a block within a featured product section. To remove a block, select the block you require, and then choose Remove block.

  • Select the Options style setting to apply a Drop down or Button style to the variant picker.

  • Select the Hide option labels checkbox to show/hide the name of the currently selected product variant inside the block.
Buy buttons *Displays the Add to cart and Buy it now buttons inside the section.
  • Select the checkbox Show dynamic checkout button to show/hide a button with the customer's preferred payment method, beside the Add to cart button, inside the block. Refer to Shopify help: Dynamic checkout buttons.

  • Select the checkbox Show pickup availability to show/hide indicators, inside the block, for products that can be collected from designated customer "pick up" locations. Refer to Shopify help: Show pickup availability to your customers.

  • Select the checkbox Show recipient information form for gift card products to show/hide the recipient information form. With this setting enabled, visitors who purchase a gift card from your store can use the form to send the gift card by providing the recipient's email address. Visitors can also enter a personal message, and send the message to the gift card's recipient. Refer to Add recipient fields to your gift card product.

  • Select Remove block to delete the block from the section.
Quantity selectorDisplays a quantity selector, inside the section, for choosing the number of products to purchase.No customizable settings available.
VendorDisplays the name of a product's vendor inside the section.No customizable settings available.
DescriptionDisplays a text area to contain additional product information, inside the section.
  • Select the Truncate description checkbox to show/hide a Read more button, inside the block. Selecting the button opens an expanded text area that contains additional product information. Enable this setting for products with variant images and longer descriptions. To use this setting, set collapsible tabs to off.
Share buttonsDisplays an area, inside the section, with buttons for sharing links to your store's products via social media. Refer to Social media.No customizable settings available.
TextDisplays a text area to contain additional product information, inside the section.
  • In the Text box, enter text to display inside the block.

  • To display text from a dynamic source, like product Title or Vendor, select the Insert dynamic source icon beside the Text box, and then choose a metafield to add. Refer to Shopify help: Metafields.

  • Use the Font options to set text inside the block to use the same font as Heading or Body text.

  • Select the Text size dropdown to set a size for the text, inside the block. The options are: S = small, M = medium, M/ desktop L = medium on smaller displays and large on desktop displays, M/ desktop XL = medium on smaller displays and extra large on desktop displays, and M/ desktop 2XL = medium on smaller displays and extra large x 2 on desktop displays.

  • Select the Icon dropdown to choose a graphical icon to display beside the text, inside the block. There are 26 icons, including: Box, Check mark, Map pin, Price tag, and Star. For no icon, select None (default).
Rich textDisplays a formatted text area to contain additional product information, inside the section.
  • In the Text box, enter text to display inside the block. Format the text and add links using the Text editor pane.

  • To display text from a dynamic source, select the Insert dynamic source icon beside the Text box, and then choose a metafield to add. Refer to Shopify help: Metafields.
Audio playerDisplays an audio player inside the section for playing the audio tracks and tracklists associated with a product.
  • In the Tracklist box, enter a song title for each track to add to a tracklist. Place each song title on a separate line. Format the text and add links using the Text editor pane.
  • To add tracks from a dynamic source, select the Insert dynamic source icon beside the Tracklist box, and then choose a metafield to add. Refer to Shopify help: Metafields and Show an audio player with tracklist on products.
Audio player - tracklistDisplays a (playable) list of audio tracks associated with a product, inside the section.
Ordered listDisplays a numbered/ordered list of items inside the section
  • In the List box, enter text for each item to list inside the block. Place each list item on a separate line. Format the text and add links using the Text editor pane.

  • To add items from a dynamic source, select the Insert dynamic source icon beside the List box, and then choose a metafield to add. Refer to Shopify help: Metafields.
Collapsible tabDisplays a text area with expandable tabs, to contain additional product information, inside the section.
  • In the Heading box, enter text to display as the block's title text.

  • To display heading text from a dynamic source, select the Insert dynamic source icon beside the Heading box, and then choose a metafield to add. Refer to Shopify help: Metafields.

  • Use the Heading text style setting to specify text a style for the block's title text. Set titles to use the same font as Heading or Body text.

  • In the Tab content box, enter text to display inside the block. Format the text and add links using the Text editor pane.

  • To display tab content from a dynamic source, select the Insert dynamic source icon beside the Tab content box, and then choose a metafield to add. Refer to Shopify help: Metafields.

  • Use the selector Tab content from page > Select page to add content from another store page into the block.

  • To display page content from a dynamic source, select the Connect dynamic source icon beside the selector, and then choose a dynamic source to add. You must define sources of dynamic content. Refer to Shopify help: Metafields

  • Select the Icon dropdown to choose a graphical icon to display beside the block's title text. There are 26 icons, including: Box, Check mark, Map pin, Price tag, and Star. For no icon, select None (default).
Icon listDisplays a list of items with icons, inside the section.
  • In the Heading box, enter text to display as the block's title.

  • To display heading text from a dynamic source, select the Insert dynamic source icon beside the Heading box, and then choose a metafield to add. Refer to Shopify help: Metafields.

  • Use the Text color setting to specify a color for text inside the block. Set the block's text to use the section color scheme's Text or Secondary color.

  • For list items 1 to 5, in the Item # > Text box, enter text to display beside an item inside the block.

  • For items 1 to 5, to display item text from a dynamic source, select the Insert dynamic source icon beside the Text box, and then choose a metafield to add. Refer to Shopify help: Metafields.

  • For list items 1 to 5, use the dropdown Item # > Icon to choose a graphical icon to display beside the item's text, inside the block. There are 26 icons, including: Box, Check mark, Map pin, Price tag, and Star. For no icon, select None (default).
Pop-upDisplays a pop-up overlay to contain additional product information, inside the section.
  • Select the Icon dropdown to choose a graphical icon to display beside the text, inside the block. There are 26 icons, including: Box, Check mark, Map pin, Price tag, and Star. For no icon, select None (default).

  • In the Link label box, enter label text for the link to use inside the block. When the link is selected, a pop-up overlay is displayed.

  • To display Link label text from a dynamic source, select the Insert dynamic source icon beside the Link label box, and then choose a metafield to add. Refer to Shopify help: Metafields

  • Use the selector Page > Select page to add content from another store page into the block.

  • To display page content from a dynamic source, select the Connect dynamic source icon beside the Page selector, and then choose a dynamic source to add. You must define sources of dynamic content. Refer to Shopify help: Metafields.

  • Use the Text color setting to specify a color for text inside the block. Set the block's text to use the section color scheme's Text or Secondary color.
Location inventory statusDisplays the quantity of a product that's available in each inventory location, inside the section.
  • Select the Locations to show radio buttons to specify the inventory locations to use for displaying the quantity of available product. The options are All locations or In stock locations only. Refer to Shopify help: Assigning inventory to locations.
Specification listDisplays a "glossary of terms" style list inside the section.
  • In the Heading box, enter text to display as the block's title.

  • To display heading text from a dynamic source, select the Insert dynamic source icon beside the Heading box, and then choose a metafield to add. Refer to Shopify help: Metafields.

  • Use the Label text color setting to specify a color for text inside the block. Set the block's text to use the section color scheme's Text or Secondary color.

  • For items 1 to 5, use the Item # > Label box to enter text to display as the item's label text (prefix), inside the block.

  • For items 1 to 5, to display label text from a dynamic source, select the Insert dynamic source icon beside the Label box, and then choose a metafield to add. Refer to Shopify help: Metafields.

  • For items 1 to 5, use the Item # > Text box to enter (suffix) text to display beside the label inside the block.

  • For items 1 to 5, to display (suffix) text from a dynamic source, select the Insert dynamic source icon, beside the Text box, and then choose a metafield to add. Refer to Shopify help: Metafields.
QuoteDisplays a text area inside the section to contain a comment or quote about a product from a customer, client or staff member.
  • Use the Text style options to set the block's text to use the same font style as Heading or Body text.

  • Select the Text size dropdown to set a size for text inside the block. The options are: S = small, M = medium, M/ desktop L = medium on smaller displays and large on desktop displays, M/ desktop XL = medium on smaller displays and extra large on desktop displays, and M/ desktop 2XL = medium on smaller displays and extra large x 2 on desktop displays.

  • In the Quote box, enter text to display as a quote inside the block. Format the text and add links using the Text editor pane.

  • To display quote text from a dynamic source, select the Insert dynamic source icon beside the Quote box, and then choose a metafield to add. Refer to Shopify help: Metafields.

  • In the Source box, enter a name to display inside the block as the source of the quote.

  • To display source text from a dynamic source, select the Insert dynamic source icon, beside the Quote box, and then choose a metafield to add. Refer to Shopify help: Metafields.
Inventory statusDisplays a text indicator of a product's availability, inside the section.
  • Adjust the Low inventory threshold slider to set a value between 0 and 20. When the in-stock quantity of a product is greater than the slider value, the text Ready to ship is displayed inside the block. Otherwise, the text Only n in stock is displayed inside the block. n is the in-stock quantity of the product.
Buy it withDisplays recommendations for products related to the current product, inside the section.
  • In the Heading box, enter text to display as the block's title.

  • To display heading text from a dynamic source, select the Insert dynamic source icon beside the Heading box, and then choose a metafield to add. Refer to Shopify help: Metafields.

  • Use the Heading text style setting to specify a text style for the block's title text. Set the title to use the same font as Heading or Body text.

  • Use the following Products selector options to set up products to display inside the block.

    • To add products, choose Select products, and then select products from the list. Alternatively, use the Search box to find the products you require. Then, choose Select.
    • To create a new product, choose Select products, select Create product to open the Create product page in Shopify admin. Use the page to create a new product. Refer to Shopify help: Products.
    • To replace a selected product, choose Change > Change products. Enter the name of a product into the Search box or select a product from the list. Then, choose Select.
    • To remove products, select Change > Remove all products.

  • To display products from a dynamic source, select the Insert dynamic source icon beside the Products box, and then choose a metafield to add. Refer to Shopify help: Metafields.
HTMLDisplays custom HTML inside the section.In the HTML box, enter custom HTML to display inside the block.
