Age check
This guide describes setting up the Age check section.
Use the section to provide store visitors with an age verification prompt before they can access your store's pages.
The previous video shows an Age check section on a store's home page. In the upper left, part of Theme editor's section menu is displayed. The menu's Enable age check option is checked (set to on
). With this option enabled, an age verification prompt is displayed before visitors can access the store's pages.

Set up an Age check section
To set up an Age check section:
Go to Customize theme.
In Theme editor, at the top of the page, use the dropdown to select the Home page.
Note
The section is accessible from all pages, excluding the Checkout, Password, and Gift card pages.
From the side menu, select Age check.
Select a setting described in the following table.
Setting name | Description |

Enable age check | Select the checkbox Enable age check to turn on/off an age verification prompt for visitors accessing your store. |
Content > Theme settings (link) | Follow the Theme settings link to open Theme editor's Logo theme settings. Use the settings to edit your store's logo. |
Content > Custom logo width | Adjust the slider Custom logo width to set a size for the logo image inside the section between 20 px and 800 px (pixels). |
Content > Heading | In the Heading box, enter text to display as a title inside the section. |
Content > Text | In the Text box, enter text to display as body text inside the section. Format the text or add a link using the Text editor pane. |
Content > Text > Connect dynamic source | To display text from a dynamic source, if available, select the Connect dynamic source icon beside the Text box, and then choose a metafield to add. Refer to Shopify help: Metafields. |
Content > Mode | Select the Mode radio buttons to set the type of prompt for the section to use. The options are Button prompt and Date of birth input. Button prompt mode provides buttons to Approve and Deny access to store pages. The Date of birth input mode requires visitors to input their Date of Birth to access the store. |
Button prompt > Approve button text | In the box Approve button text, enter text to display as label text inside the section's Approve button. To use this option, set Content > Mode to Button prompt. |
Button prompt > Deny button text | In the box Deny button text, enter text to display as label text inside the section's Deny button. To use this option, set Content > Mode to Button prompt. |
Date of Birth input > Date format | Select the Date format radio buttons to set a date format for the section's age verification prompt to use. The options are MM DD YYYY and DD MM YYYY. To use this option, set Content > Mode to Date of birth input. |
Date of Birth input > Minimum age | Adjust the Minimum age slider to set the minimum age that's required for a visitor to access the store. The slider ranges from 15 yrs to 25 yrs (years). To use this option, set Content > Mode to Date of birth input. |
Redirect URL > Link | In the Link box, enter a URL or select a link to a store page. Visitors are redirected to this link if they select the Deny button or enter a date of birth that's below the specified Minimum age. |
Redirect URL > Link > Connect dynamic source | To display a link from a dynamic source, if available, select the Connect dynamic source icon beside the Link box, and then choose a metafield to add. Refer to Shopify help: Metafields. |
Color > Color scheme | Use the Color scheme options to select a color scheme for the section. Refer to Colors. |
Color > Theme settings (link) | Follow the Theme settings link to open Theme editor's Color theme settings. Use the settings to edit the theme colors for your entire store. |
Theme settings | If available, select Theme settings to access additional settings for the section. Refer to Section theme settings menu. |
Custom CSS | Select Custom CSS. In the box, enter custom CSS styles to apply only to the current section. Refer to Shopify help: Add custom CSS. To apply custom styles to your entire online store, refer to Theme settings > Custom CSS. |
