Age check
This guide describes the Age check section.
Use this section to display an age verification prompt before visitors can access your store.

The previous image shows the Age check section on a store's home page. In the upper left, part of the Theme editor's section menu is displayed. The menu's Enable age check option is set to on. With this option enabled, an age verification prompt is displayed before visitors can access the store's pages.

Configure the Age check section
To configure your Age check section:
In the Theme editor, at the top of the page, use the theme templates dropdown to select the home page.
Note
The section is accessible from all pages, excluding Checkout, Password, and Gift card pages.
From the side menu, select Age check.
Select a setting described in the following table.

| Enable age check | Use the Enable age check option to turn on or off an age verification prompt for visitors accessing your store. |
| Content > Theme settings (link) | Select the Theme settings link to open the Logo theme settings in the Theme editor. Use the settings to edit your store's logo. |
| Content > Heading | In the Heading field, enter text to display as a heading for the section. |
| Content > Text | In the Text field, enter body text to display in the section. Use the in-line editor to format the text and add links as needed. |
| Content > Mode | Use the Mode options to choose the type of age verification prompt to display. The options are Button and Date of birth input. Button mode provides Approve and Deny buttons for access to store pages. The Date of birth input mode requires visitors to enter their date of birth before they can access the store. |
| Logo > Show logo | Set the Show logo option to on or off. When enabled, this setting displays your store's logo image inside the age check prompt. |
| Logo > Logo width | Adjust the Logo width slider between 20 and 800 px. This setting specifies the maximum width of the logo image displayed in the prompt. To use this option, enable the Show logo option. The logo is set in theme settings. |
| Image > Image | Use the Image picker to select an image to display in the section. |
| Image > Deep inset | Set the Deep inset option to on or off. With this option enabled, a margin (padding) is applied around the image. To use this option, select an Image. |
| Image > Crop | Use the Crop option to select No crop, Landscape, Square, or Portrait. Use this option to specify how the section's image is cropped. To use this option, select an Image and enable the Deep inset option. |
| Image > Desktop width | Use the Desktop width option to select 1/3, 1/2, or 2/3. To use this option, select an Image. |
| Button > Approve button text | In the Approve button text field, enter text to display as a label for the section's Approve button. To use this option, set the Content > Mode option to Button. |
| Button > Deny button text | In the Deny button text field, enter text to display as a label for the section's Deny button. To use this option, set the Content > Mode option to Button. |
| Date of birth input > Date format | Use Date format options to choose the format used in the age verification prompt. The options are MM DD YYYY and DD MM YYYY. To use this option, set the Content > Mode option to Date of birth input. |
| Date of birth input > Minimum age | Adjust the Minimum age slider to set the minimum age required to access the store. The slider ranges from 15 yrs to 25 yrs (years). To use this option, set the Content > Mode option to Date of birth input. |
| Age check declined > Action | Use the Action option to select Message or Redirect URL. This setting determines whether visitors who fail age verification see a customizable message or are redirected to a specified URL. The action also occurs if visitors select the Deny button. |
| Age check declined > External URL | In the External URL field, enter a URL. Visitors are redirected to this URL if they select the Deny button or enter a date of birth that's below the specified Minimum age. To test this feature, preview the theme. Internal URLs are not supported. To use this option, set the Action option to Redirect URL. |
| Age check declined > Heading | Enter a single line of text in the Heading field to display as a heading for the section's age verification message. This message is shown when visitors select Deny or enter a date of birth below the configured Minimum age. To use this option, set the Action option to Message. |
| Age check declined > Text | In the Text field, enter formatted text to display in the section's age verification message. Add links and styling as needed. This message is shown when visitors select Deny or enter a date of birth below the configured Minimum age. To use this option, set the Action option to Message. |
| Color > Color scheme | Use the Color scheme picker to select a color scheme for the section. Refer to Colors. |
| Theme settings | If available, select Theme settings to access additional settings for the section. Refer to Section theme settings menu. |
| Custom CSS | Select Custom CSS. In the CSS field, enter custom CSS styles to apply only to the current section. Refer to Shopify help: Add custom CSS. To apply custom styles to your entire online store, refer to Theme settings > Custom CSS. |
Note
To connect a metafield to a setting that supports metafields, select the Connect dynamic source icon displayed beside the setting in the Theme editor.
