Video ​

This guide describes setting up the Video section.

Use the section to add a video to a store page from a URL or to add a video from your store's media library. With videos, you can share information about your brand with customers, describe products, or welcome customers to your store, etc.

The previous video shows a Video section on a store's homepage. In the section's settings, a video is linked from a YouTube URL. To reduce the width of the section, the Style option is set to Inset. The Play button is selected to start the video.

Set up a video section ​

To set up a Video section:

  1. Go to Customize theme. At the top of the page, use the dropdown to select a template that contains a Video section.

    Note

    The section can be added into any page, except Checkout and Giftcard pages. To add the section into the current page, select Add section > Video. Refer to Shopify help: Add a section

  2. From the side menu, select Video.

  3. Select a setting described in the following table.

Setting nameDescription
TitleIn the Title box, enter text to display as a title (heading) inside the section. Refer to Add, replace or remove an image or video inside a section or block.
StyleSelect the Style radio buttons to set the section's (width) style to Inset or Full width.
Aspect ratioUse the Aspect ratio dropdown to set a size for the section's video. The options are Natural, Standard (4:3), Widescreen (16:9), and Extra wide (2.35:1). The Natural option uses the video's native aspect ratio.
Cover imageUse following Cover image selector options to set up an image inside the section. The image is shown if the video does not load or play.
Cover image > Connect dynamic sourceTo display a cover image from a dynamic source, select the Connect dynamic source icon beside the Cover image selector, and then choose a metafield to add. Refer to Shopify help: Metafields.
Video > VideoUse the Video selector options to set up a video from your store's media library inside the section. Refer to Add, replace or remove an image or video inside a section or block. If you select a video file, the file is used instead of the embedded video option.
Embedded video > Embedded video URLIn the Embedded video URL box, enter a URL for the section's video. YouTube and Vimeo links are accepted.
Color > Color schemeUse the Color scheme dropdown to set the section's color scheme to Primary, Secondary, Tertiary or Quaternary. Refer to Colors.
Color > Use gradient for backgroundSelect the checkbox Use gradient for background to turn on/ off using a gradient as the section's background.
Custom CSSSelect Custom CSS. In the box, enter custom CSS styles to apply only to the current section. Refer to Shopify help: Add custom CSS. To apply custom styles to your entire online store, refer to Theme settings > Custom CSS.
Remove sectionSelect Remove section to delete the section from the current page.

Configure a block within a video section ​

A default Video section contains no blocks. To configure a block inside the section:

  1. Go to Customize theme. At the top of the page, use the dropdown to select a template that contains a Video section.

  2. From the side menu, expand the Video section menu.

  3. To configure an existing block, select the block from the side menu.

    To add a new block, select Add block, choose a block to add, and then select the block you added.

    Inside the section, you can add, remove, show/ hide, or move blocks. Refer to Configure blocks inside a section, and Shopify help: Sections and blocks

  4. Apply a block setting described in the following table.
