Image with text overlay ​

This guide describes how to set up the Image with text overlay section.

Use the section to display an image, overlaid with text, on a page.

The previous image shows an example store's home page. In the upper left, part of the Theme editor's Image with text overlay section menu is displayed. The menu's Display on card option is enabled. Use this option to show or hide a card behind the section's text overlay area. Refer to Shopify help: Cards. For example, in the previous image, a card is displayed behind the section's overlay text "Billy's Chocolaterie".

Configure the Image with text overlay section ​

To configure your Image with text overlay section:

  1. In the Theme editor, at the top of the page, use the dropdown to select a page that contains an Image with text overlay section.

    Note

    The section can be added to any page, except Gift card and Customer pages. To add the section to the current page, select Add section > Image with text overlay. Refer to Shopify help: Add a section.

  2. From the side menu, select Image with text overlay.

  3. Select a setting described in the following table.

Setting nameDescription
ImageUse the Image picker to select an image to display in the section. Refer to Add, replace or remove an image or video inside a section or block.
Image - mobileUse the Image - mobile picker to select an image to display in the section on mobile display devices. Refer to Add, replace or remove an image or video inside a section or block. The recommended image dimensions are 800 x 1200 pixels in .jpg format.
Layout > Display on cardUse the Display on card option to show or hide a card behind the section's text overlay area. Refer to Shopify help: Cards.
Layout > Display content below image on mobileUse the Display content below image on mobile option to turn on or off displaying the section's text overlay area below the section's image on mobile display devices.
Layout > StyleUse the Style option to select Inset or Full to specify a layout style for the section.
Layout > HeightUse the Height options to select Natural, Screen height, Three quarters screen height, Two thirds screen height, Half screen height, 600px, 700px, or 800px. Use this option to specify a height for the section.
Layout > Content positionUse the Content position options to select Top left, Top center, Top right, Middle left, Middle center, Middle right, Bottom left, Bottom center, or Bottom right. Use this option to specify a position for the section's text overlay area.
Layout > Text alignUse the Text align option to select Left, Center, or Right to specify an alignment for the text inside the section's text overlay area.
Content > TitleIn the Title field, enter text to display as a title in the section. Format the text and add links using the inline editor.
Content > SubheadingIn the Subheading field, enter text to display as the section's subheading. Format the text and add links using the inline editor. To use this option, enter text in the Title field.
Content > TextIn the Text field, enter text to display as body text in the section. Format the text and add links using the inline editor.
Content > LinkIn the Link field, enter a URL or select a store page to use as a link for the section's button.
Content > Button textIn the Button text field, enter text to display as a label for the section's button.
Color > Color schemeUse the Color scheme picker to select a color scheme for the section. Refer to Colors.
Color > Use gradient for backgroundUse the Use gradient for background option to turn on or off using a gradient as the section's background.
Theme settingsIf available, select Theme settings to access additional settings for the section. Refer to Section theme settings menu.
Custom CSSSelect Custom CSS. In the CSS field, enter custom CSS styles to apply only to the current section. Refer to Shopify help: Add custom CSS. To apply custom styles to your entire online store, refer to Theme settings > Custom CSS.
Remove sectionSelect Remove section to delete the section from the current page.

Note

To connect a metafield to a setting that supports metafields, select the Connect dynamic source icon displayed beside the setting in the Theme editor.

Configure a block within an Image with text overlay section ​

To configure a block for your Image with text overlay section:

  1. In the Theme editor, at the top of the page, use the dropdown to select a page that contains an Image with text overlay section.

  2. From the side menu, expand the Image with text overlay section menu.

  3. To configure an existing block, select the block from the side menu.

    To add a new block, select Add block, choose a block to add, and then select the block you added.

    Note

    Inside the section, you can add, remove, show, hide, and move blocks. Refer to Configure blocks inside a section and Shopify help: Sections and blocks.

  4. Apply a block setting described in the following table.
