# Offset gallery

This guide describes setting up an Offset gallery section.

Use the section to display an offset arrangement of media on a store page, like images, products, collections, and articles.

The previous image shows an Offset gallery section on a store’s homepage. Inside the section, images are arranged as a gallery. The gallery’s images are displayed at an “offset” angle. A link to a store page is assigned to one of the images (block). The link opens whenever a store visitor selects the block.

To set up an Offset gallery section:

  1. Go to Customize theme. At the top of the page, use the dropdown to select a template that contains an Offset gallery section.

    Note

    The section can be added into any page, except Checkout and Giftcard pages. To add the section into the current page, select Add section > Offset gallery. Refer to Shopify help: Add a section (opens new window)

  2. From the side menu, select Offset gallery.

  3. Select a setting described in the following table.

Setting name Description
Height Use the Height dropdown to set the section’s height. The options are:
  • Screen height
  • Three quarters screen height
  • Two thirds screen height
  • Half screen height
  • 600px (pixels)
  • 700px
  • 800px
Crop images Use the Crop images dropdown to set an image cropping style for the images inside the section. The dropdown options are: Landscape, Square, Portrait, and No crop.
Default image shape Use the Default image shape dropdown to set a default shape for images inside the section. Shapes theme provides more than 40 different shapes for images. Some shapes will crop the image. Refer to Style images with shapes.
Layout > Number of items on mobile Adjust the slider Number of items on mobile to set the number of items to display inside the section. The slider ranges from 4 to 12. This setting applies to mobile display devices.
Layout > Number of items on desktop Adjust the slider Number of items on desktop to set the number of items to display inside the section. The slider ranges from 15 to 30. This setting applies to desktop display devices.
Layout > Zoom level Adjust the Zoom level slider to zoom into/out of the section. The slider ranges from 1.1 to 1.5.
Layout > Rotate Adjust the Rotate slider to rotate items inside the section between -30deg and 30deg (degrees).
Color > Color scheme Use the Color scheme dropdown to set the section’s color scheme to Primary, Secondary, Tertiary, or Quaternary. Refer to Colors.
Color > Use gradient for background Select the checkbox Use gradient for background to turn on/off using a gradient as the section’s background.
Theme settings Select Theme settings to access additional settings for the section. Refer to Section theme settings menu.
Remove section Select Remove section to delete the section from the current page.

A default Offset gallery section contains 8 images (blocks). To configure a block inside the section:

  1. Go to Customize theme. At the top of the page, use the dropdown to select a template that contains an Offset gallery section.

  2. From the side menu, expand the Offset gallery section menu.

  3. To configure an existing block, select the block from the side menu.

    To add a new block, select Add block, choose a block to add, and then select the block you added.

  4. Apply a block setting described in the Table: Offset gallery blocks.

The following table describes the blocks inside the Offset gallery section, and their corresponding settings.

The blocks indicated with an asterisk * are contained in a default Offset gallery section. To configure a block, refer to Configure a block within an offset gallery section.

Block name Block description Block setting(s)
Image * Displays an image inside the section.
  • Use the following Image selector options to set up an image inside the block.
    • To add an image, choose Select image, and then upload an image or select an image file from your store’s file library.
    • To edit an uploaded image, select Edit in the image selector’s thumbnail preview area. Refer to Edit an image inside a section or block.
    • To replace an image, choose Change > Change image, and then select or upload a new image.
    • To remove an image, select Change > Remove image.
    • Select the Add alt text link, and then enter a brief description of the image into the Image alt text box. The description improves search engine optimization (SEO), and provides greater accessibility for customers who use screen-reading tools. The text is saved immediately.     • To display an image from a dynamic source, select Change > Connect dynamic source, and then choose a metafield to add. Refer to Shopify help: Metafields (opens new window)

  • To display an image from a dynamic source, select the Connect dynamic source icon beside the Image selector, and then choose a metafield to add. Refer to Shopify help: Metafields (opens new window)

  • Use the Image shape dropdown to set a shape for images inside the block. Shapes theme provides more than 40 different shapes for images. Some shapes will crop the image. Refer to Style images with shapes.

  • Use the Image alignment dropdown to align the image inside the block. The dropdown options are: Top left, Top center, Top right, Middle left, Middle center, Middle right, Bottom left, Bottom center, and Bottom right.

  • In the Link (optional) box, enter a URL for the block to use or select a link to a store page. The link opens when a store visitor selects the block. To remove a link, select the X icon inside the text box.

  • To display a URL from a dynamic source, select the Connect dynamic source icon beside the Link box, and then choose a metafield to add. Refer to Shopify help: Metafields (opens new window)

  • Select Remove block to delete the block from the current section.
Product Displays a product inside the section.
  • Use the following Product menu options to set up a product inside the block.
    • To add a product, choose Select product, enter the name of a product into the Search box and/or select a product from the list. Then, choose Select.
    • To create a new product, select Create product to open the Add product page in Shopify admin. Select the new product, and then choose Select. Refer to Shopify help: Products (opens new window)
    • To replace a product, choose Change > Change product, and then select or create a product.
    • To remove a product, select Change > Remove product.

  • Select Remove block to delete the block from the current section.
Collection Displays a collection inside the section.
  • Use the following Collection menu options to set up a collection inside the block.
    • To add a collection, choose Select collection, enter the name of a collection into the Search box and/or select a collection from the list. Then, choose Select.
    • To create a new collection, select Create collection to open the Create collection page in Shopify admin. Select the new collection, and then choose Select. Refer to Shopify help: Collections (opens new window)
    • To replace a collection, choose Change > Change collection. Enter the name of a collection into the Search box and/or select a collection from the list. Then, choose Select.
    • To remove a collection, select Change > Remove collection.

  • Select Remove block to delete the block from the current section.
Article Displays an article (blog post) inside the section.
  • Use the following Article menu options to set up an article inside the block.
    • To add an article, choose Select article, enter the name of an article into the Search box and/or select an article from the list. Then, choose Select.
    • To create a new article, select Create article to open the Add blog posts page in Shopify admin. Select the new article, and then choose Select. Refer to Shopify help: Blogs (opens new window)
    • To replace an article, choose Change > Change article, and then select or create an article.
    • To remove an article, select Change > Remove article.

  • Select Remove block to delete the block from the current section.
Background pattern Displays a stylistic pattern as a background inside the section. Refer to Background pattern.
Background shape Displays a stylistic shape as a background inside the section. Refer to Background shape.
Sticker Overlays the section with a stylized sticker. Refer to Stickers.
Shape divider Displays a stylized separator between the current section and the next/previous section. Refer to Shape divider.
